Thursday Overnights: Philadelphia Eagles at NY Giants Lead Fox to Victory

It was an easy overnight victory for Fox, and will be until Thursday night football concludes. The Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants match-up averaged an estimated 8.4 rating/14 share in the household overnights through 10 p.m. ET last night (the game ended at approximately 11:36 p.m. ET). And this does not include coverage on the NFLN.

In season premiere news was CW drama “Supernatural,” now in season 14, at a modest 1.0/ 2 in households at 8 p.m. Comparably, this was 23 percent below the 1.3/ 2 on the year-ago evening. And it led into an encore telecast of the pilot episode of drama “All American” at a 0.4/ 1 (#5) at 9 p.m.

Top-rated for the evening was CBS’ veteran “The Big Bang Theory” (#1: 8.7/15 at 8 p.m.), which led into a 7.2/12 (#1) for prequel “Young Sheldon” at 8:30 p.m. Needless to say, adult Sheldon and company will be sorely missed next season.

Next on the Eye net was 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “Mom” (#2: 5.6/ 9) and the “Murphy Brown” reboot (#2: 4.9/ 8), which led into a dominant 3.8/ 7 for crime solver “S.W.A.T.” at 10 p.m. Although “S.W.A.T.” bested competing “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC (#2: 3.2/ 6) by 19 percent, worth positively noting for “SVU” was overnight growth out of freshman sitcom “I Feel Bad” (#4: 1.6/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.) of 100 percent. “I Feel Bad” is my pick for the first new network series to be canceled this season.

Earlier in the evening on NBC were comedies “Superstore” (#4: 2.1/ 4), “The Good Place” (#4: 2.0/ 3) and season two of the “Will & Grace” reboot (#4: 2.7/ 4) from 8-9:30 p.m., which just do not resonate despite the ongoing accolades. Comparably, “Will & Grace” was off by a hefty 46 percent from the 5.0/ 8 on the year-ago evening.

ABC, meanwhile, had nothing unusual to report with its Thursday night drama combination of “Grey’s Anatomy” (#2: 5.1/ 8 at 8 p.m.), “Grey’s” spin-off “Station 19” (#3: 4.7/ 8 at 9 p.m.) and “How To Get Away With Murder” (#3: 2.6/ 5 at 10 p.m.), which is likely in its last season.
