ABC and Fox Hand Out the Pink Slips

Three Season Old Sitcom 'Sppechless' and Freshman 'The Kids Are Alright' Are 2 of the Casualties.

As of Friday, ABC announced it is not moving forward on new seasons of sitcoms Speechless,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “Splitting Up” together; and dramas “The Fix” and “For the People.” Shondaland, which produced “For the People,” got better news with renewals for Thursday trio “Grey’s Anatomy” (which heads into season 16), spin-off “Station 19” and “How to Get Away With Murder.” Also returning on the alphabet net are freshman comedies “Single Parents” and “Bless This Mess,” and freshman crime solver “The Rookie” with Nathan Fillion.

Fox, meanwhile, has swung the proverbial axe freshman comedy “The Cool Kids” and drama “The Passage.”

  1. Sad to read that ABC didn’t pick up three of my favorite shows. I really liked, “The Kids are Alright.” As a child of the ’70s, the show really resonated with me. .. and thought it was a great fit to ABC’s Tuesday night line up. I am a fan of, “Speechless,” but I can understand that show ran its course. As for, “Splitting Up Together,” I loved this show. I was curious to see where the show was going to take us after the season finale. I am happy that “Single Parents” and “Bless This Mess” will both be back.

  2. I’m really going to miss The Kids Are Alright. That was a real gem. Splitting Up Together wasn’t bad either. Glad to see Soeechless go.
