Academy Award Nominations Announced

'The Revenant' Leads With 12 Nods

Nominations for the 88th Annual Academy Awards were announced yesterday morning. “The Revenant” leads with 12 nods, including Best Picture, Director (Alejandro González Iñárritu) and Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio). The seven other films nominated for Best Picture are “Spotlight,” “The Martian,” “The Big Short,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Brooklyn,” “Room” and “Bridge of Spies.” Other films with double digit nominations include “Mad Max” with 10 (excluding director Ridley Scott, who was overlooked), astronaut drama “Martian” with seven, “Spotlight” with six, and five for Wall Street drama “The Big Short.”

The Oscars will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center and will be televised live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET. The event will also be broadcast live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
