‘The Americans’ to End Run with Two Season Renewal

Twenty Three New Episodes, In Total, Have Been Ordered

It was never a hit per se on FX based on the traditional ratings. But critically acclaimed FX Cold War spy drama drama “The Americans,” starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, has been renewed for two final seasons. The order is for 13-episodes in 2017 and 10 final episodes in 2018, which will bring the episode tally to 78 episodes. The current fifth season ends on June 8.

“Through its first four seasons, critics have lauded The Americans as one of the best shows on television and, remarkably, a series that keeps getting better every year,”
said FX’s president of original programming Eric Schrier. “We have no doubt that this two-season order will allow Joe and Joel to tell this story to its perfect conclusion.”

FX Productions, which co-produces “The Americans” with Fox 21 TV Studios, has also closed new overall deals with executive producers/co-showrunners Joe Weisberg, who created the series, and Joel Fields to develop their next show.
