Apex Legends Overview

Nowadays, there is a long list of available online games, and Apex Legends is one of these. Although it is a reasonably new player on the Battle Royale scene, it is considered a potential rival to PUBG and Fortnite that are quite popular among gamers across mobile devices, PCs, and consoles.

It is a free-to-play game from Respawn Entertainment and has the same team behind the popular Titanfall franchise. Some people are disappointed that the company hasn’t released Titanfall 3, but many are happy with Apex Legends. So much so that the game was able to clock up more than 25 million players in the first few weeks of the play. 

What is Apex Legends?

Apex Legends is quite a new free-to-play Battle Royale style shooter game that is available for people to download on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Onto the battlefield, 60 players are dropped where they have to loot, scavenge for the weapons and ammo while battling out with the other players. A shrinking ring pushes the players closer together until only a handful are left; a single team wins it.

This game is set 30 years after the events of Titanfall 2. There is a place called Outlands where humans and robots have to battle out for victory. There are 20 squads of three players who need to fight it out in a furious battle for survival, while the battle takes place on the Kings Canyon map.

Apex Legends is different from Titanfall 3; therefore, one may not expect wall-running, mech suits, double-jumping, or any other mechanics. The play is fast-paced, which includes the ability to slide down the slopes or across the floor, while this game also has a brilliant gunplay style.

What makes it different from other Battle Royale games?

Apex Legends is relatively different from other Battle Royale games because it includes human and robot heroes known as ‘Legends.’ These hero characters have special tactics and abilities which set them apart. It is quite unusual that many other games in this genre offer a level playing field by setting off each player on the same foot with the basic characters having no skills or attributes to have the upper hand over the opponents.

Different character skills work well and complement the squad to make it an efficient fighting unit. Another difference is that one squad member is selected as a jumpmaster, a squad leader who happens to choose where the team lands. Therefore, other players are bound to the jumpmaster.

Other highlights may include the ability to use the ziplines for dashing across different areas of the map neatly and many hot-air balloons that can be ventured and then glide across open ground to some other location. With Apex Legends, you can also revive the fallen teammates if he dies, but you have to survive the battle, get to their loot crate, pick up the banner and then take this banner to the respawn location.

Levels and experience points

The players are able to earn experience points by playing and winning. With the help of these points, you will eventually level up, and each time you get a new level, you will be earning different rewards like Legend Tokens and Apex Packs. 

Characters

There are a number of characters in Apex Legends, and all of these have their own special abilities. With the ‘Legends,’ you can choose a character that suits your own play style and customize your experience. The legends have a tactical and an ultimate move, and these are subject to cooldowns so that they can be prevented from being overused.

Several main legends are available, and you can unlock the characters by earning 12,000 Legend Tokens from the gameplay sessions. Ranked leagues

The ranked mode introduced by Apex Legends allows the more competitive players to battle for the scoreboard glory. This ranked mode has a ladder that allows the players to see how they stack up in the competition, but it also has a skill-based match-making system making sure that the players are against the ones who have a similar skill level.

Gamers who get involved in a ranked mode would be getting access to the in-game rewards based on their rank. There are different tiers of the Ranked Leagues that are split into Apex Predator, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Players who start a league on a Bronze tier can work their way up with the season’s progress.

Microtransactions

Although Apex Legends is free-to-play, it also has microtransactions. These may include the loot boxes known as Apex Packs and a premium currency called Apex Coins. Therefore, it is possible to purchase cosmetic items. 

You also have the option to pay real money for the new Legends, or you can grind through the game so that you can unlock them. It is worth noting that Apex Legends is not pay to win, as it is carefully balanced to make sure that everyone can get a fair game.

What is a Battle Pass?

Like Fortnite, Apex Legends has a seasonal-based system, a Battle Pass that rewards the players with in-game cosmetic items. These rewards may include the Apex Packs and the seasonal items. Through normal play, every player can unlock some of these items each season, and those who choose the Battle Pass can earn everything that is available in that season.

The players can keep what they earn, and they can also continue using it the next season. Each Apex Legends season can last for around three months, whereas the future season promises new characters, loot, and weapons to unlock.
