WGN America has hired veteran journalist Ashley Banfield to anchor a new talk show called “Banfield” weeknights at 9 p.m. ET beginning on Monday, March 1. It replaces the third hour of “News Nation”, which has been trimmed to 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET. According to date from Nielsen Media Research, “News Nation” in December averaged only 54,000 viewers for the full three-hour block, with viewership in the third hour falling to 38,000.
Billed as a contemporary version of Larry King’s old talk show on CNN, “Banfield” will feature interviews with newsmakers, politicians and celebrities along with “in-depth coverage the day’s top news stories.”
Banfield’s professional experience incudes stints at CNN, HLN, MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News, A+E, TruTV and Court TV.
