PBS Kids Cancels Veteran Animated ‘Caillou’

Series Ran on the Public Broadcasting Service for 20 Years

Animated “Caillou”, which centers on a 4-year-old boy named Caillou who is fascinated by the world around him, has been canceled by its current outlet, PBS Kids. The Public Broadcasting Service aired “Caillou” for 20 years and originally got its start in Canada, premiering on the French-language Télétoon channel on Sept. 15, 1997 and on the English-language Teletoon on Oct. 17, 1997.

“We’re saying farewell to @cailloudhx, but remember, when we say goodbye to something…..It just means we get to say hello to something new,” a representative from PBS Kids’ tweeted.

The announcement had mixed reactions on Twitter. Some parents and former viewers celebrated, while others were heartbroken by the news.
“It’s sad to see Caillou leave PBS Kids after 20 years of being on the channel from September 4, 2000 – December 27, 2020, but at least there is episodes on YouTube and DVD so I can continue to watch one of my childhood shows,” one user said.  “As a parent I hated that show. Bad parenting. Bad child. Bad everything. Good riddance,” said another.
