‘The Big Bang Theory’ Leads CBS to More Thursday Overnight Victory

Fox's 'Kicking & Screaming' Closes with Minimal Interest

FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2017

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 4.3/ 7, ABC: 3.7/ 6, NBC: 3.0/ 5, Fox: 1.5/ 3, CW: 0.8/ 1

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
NBC: + 7, CBS: -12, ABC: -24, Fox: -25, CW: -33

-Ratings Breakdown:
“The Big Bang Theory” led CBS to another Thursday overnight victory, with a 16 percent advantage over the home of “Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC. “Big Bang” topped the night at an 8.0 rating/14 share in the household overnights at 8 p.m., leading into a 4.0/ 7 for waiting-to-be canceled “The Great Indoors” (#2) at 8:30 p.m. Chances are upcoming “Big Bang” prequel “Young Sheldon” will air in the Thursday 8:30 p.m. half-hour on CBS next season.

Aforementioned “Grey’s Anatomy,” of course, is a solid draw in the 8 p.m. hour, with a second-place 5.1/ 9. But the results remain limited for competing “MasterChef Junior” on Fox (2.0/ 3), two episodes (repeat and original) of “Superstore” on NBC (8 p.m.: #4: 1.6/ 3; 8:30 p.m.: #3t., 1.9/ 3) and veteran “Supernatural” on The CW (#5: 1.0/ 2). The biggest obstacle for NBC next season, once again, is getting anyone to watch its comedies.

In season (or series) finale news, Fox reality/competition “Kicking & Screaming” is unlikely to see a second season at a distant fourth-place 1.1/ 2 from 9-10 p.m.

Elsewhere, the Big 3 were within only two-tenths of each other in the 9 p.m. hour care of CBS sitcoms “Mom” (4.7/ 8) and “Life in Pieces” (3.6/ 6), NBC’s “Chicago Med” (4.0/ 7) and “Scandal” on ABC (4.0/ 6). Also at 9 p.m. was The CW’s “Riverdale” (#5: 0.6/ 1), which owes its second season renewal to the strength of social media.

First at 10 p.m. was NBC’s “The Blacklist” at an uneventful 3.4/ 6, followed by “The Amazing Race” on CBS (2.6/ 5) and likely-to-be axed “The Catch” on ABC (2.2/ 4).
