CBS has given series orders to tree dramas: “Fire Country” with Max Theriot; “East New York”, starring Jimmy Smits and Amanda Warren; and legal drama “So Help Me Todd”, with Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin. The network, meanwhile, has not announced any new comedies and has canceled sitcoms “B Positive” and “How We Roll” and dramas “Magnum P.I.” and freshman “Good Sam.” Earlier this week, the Eye net announced that sophomore comedy “United States of Al” will also not be returning.
“Fire Country” stars Thieriot as Bode Donovan, a young convict who joins a firefighting program for inmates in a bid to shorten his prison sentence. The program brings him back to his hometown in Northern California, “where he and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region,” per the official description.
“East New York” follows Regina Haywood (Amanda Warren), the newly promoted deputy inspector of East New York, a working-class neighborhood at the edge of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives, some of whom are reluctant to deploy her creative methods of serving and protecting in the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.
“So Help Me Todd” features Skylar Astin as a talented but directionless P.I. who is the black sheep of his family. He begrudgingly agrees to work as the in-house investigator for his overbearing mother (Marcia Gay-Harden), a successful attorney reeling from the recent dissolution of her marriage.
