CBS Orders Sitcom ‘Superior Donuts’

Thirteen Episodes for Midseason are Slated

Just three days into the new TV season and CBS has greenlit a new sitcom called “Superior Donuts.” Based on the play by Tracy Letts, “Superior Donuts” follows the relationship between the gruff owner (Judd Hirsch) of a small donut shop, his enterprising new young employee (Jermaine Fowler) and their loyal patrons in a quickly gentrifying Chicago neighborhood. The cast will feature David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans, Rell Battle and Katey Sagal. Both Hirsch and Sagal appeared on the season-opening episode of “The Big Bang Theory” this week.

Fowler will serve as exec producer on “Superior Donuts,” along with Bob Daily, Neil Goldman, Garrett Donovan, Mark Teitelbaum, John Montgomery, Michael Rotenberg and Josh Lieberman. CBS Television Studios is producing.

No premiere date has been set, but “Superior Donuts” will premiere midseason on CBS. Thirteen episodes have been ordered.
