CBS Renews ‘The Big Bang Theory’ for Two More Seasons

Veteran Comedy Expected to Be Paired With Upcoming Prequel 'Sheldon' Next Season

It is official. CBS has picked-up the top-rated sitcom in primetime, “The Big Bang Theory,” for two more seasons. This takes it through the 2018-19 TV season, which will put it in a tie with “Two and a Half Men” and “My Three Sons” as the second longest running scripted comedy in the history of television (behind “The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet” on ABC, which aired from 1952 to 1966). “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on FX and FXX is now also at 12 seasons.

Debuting on Sept. 24, 2007, “The Big Bang Theory” is expected to lead-into upcoming prequel “Sheldon,” which will focus on the character of Sheldon Cooper as a nine year old.
