HBO Max Orders Period Comedy ‘Our Flag Means Death’

HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order to “Our Flag Means Death,” a period comedy loosely based on the adventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate. Created by showrunner David Jenkins, Taika Waititi will exec produce and direct the pilot.

“Our Flag Means Death” joins a roster of scripted originals including “Search Party” from TBS, TNT transfer “Raised by Wolves,” anthology “Love Life,” DC drama “Doom Patrol,” and the upcoming “Tokyo Vice,” the reboot of “Gossip Girl,” and “The Flight Attendant,” among others.

The number of episodes ordered for “Our Flag Means Death” has not been confirmed.
