How to Block Someone on Instagram?

Today I am writing about a very useful Instagram feature that you all must have needed at one time or another. And that is how to block someone on Instagram. Undoubtedly, Instagram is one of the most loved social media spaces today. And there are enough valid reasons for that. It has got you covered with all the necessary features from personal branding to business marketing and chit-chat with friends. But what attracts me the most is the feeling of being safe and stress-free from trolls, stalkers, frenemies, nosey relatives, and sometimes from my boss too. All thanks to its Blocking feature.

Let me tell you why Instagram is unique from its fellow ones. It does not just give you the option to ‘Block’ someone but it facilitates partial blocking as well. It’s called ‘Restriction’. How To Block Someone On Instagram?

Instagram App displays the list of all accounts that you have Blocked. Whenever you Block someone, the user will not be notified that you have chosen to Block him. Also note that when you block someone on Instagram, they won’t be able to message you or find your profile, posts, or story on Instagram. There are many ways to Block someone on Instagram. I am here explaining all the ways one by one.

Block Someone Through Settings

Open the Instagram App. In the bottom right corner of your phone screen, go to your profile.

Tap those three horizontal lines which you can see at the top right corner of your App screen.

Then, tap on the gear icon to get to ‘Settings’.

Go to ‘Privacy” settings.

Then scroll and tap on ‘Blocked Accounts.
Now, if you want to add anyone to this list, simply the “+” icon at the top right and search for the username of the person you want to block. Just for an example, I am searching for ‘John Stephen Piper’
Hit the ‘Block’ option next to his name.
By doing this you will be given 2 options. One is ‘Block johnstephenpiper and new accounts they may create’ and the other is only ‘Block johnstephenpiper’.
Choose whatever you prefer and hit the blue ‘Block’ button finally.

Block Someone Through Direct

Open the Instagram App. At the top right corner of our phone screen, hit the ‘Message’ or ‘Chat’ icon.
Open the Chat head of the person you want to block. Just for an example, I am selecting the user ‘akkanch’ here.
Located at the top right side of the chat head, tap the ‘Small i in the circle’ icon for details, as you can see in the screenshot.
Scroll down and tap ‘Block’.
By doing this you will be given 2 options. One is ‘Block akkanch and new accounts they may create’ and the other is only ‘Block akkanch’.
Choose whatever you prefer and hit the blue ‘Block’ button finally to make sure the user is blocked.

Block Someone Through Their Profile

First of all,l locate the user scrolling through the feed. Alternatively, you may also locate it in the stories section. Also, you may directly search for the name of the person you want to block and go to their profile. Here is an example I am blocking the user ‘ben07yamin’.

In the top right, tap on three vertical dots to explore more options.
Tap on ‘Block’.
By doing this you will be given 2 options. One is ‘Block ben07yamin and new accounts they may create’ and the other is only ‘Block ben07yamin’.
Choose whatever you prefer and hit the blue ‘Block’ button finally to make sure the user is blocked.
You may also select the ‘Block and Report’ option. Opting which you will be reporting the user to Instagram. Your report will be anonymous.

What Happens When You Block Someone On Instagram?

I think this is the question that needs to be answered before you block someone on your Instagram account. Anyway, you already know that people do not get any notifications when you block them. Besides that, the following things happen when you block someone on Instagram. Read carefully –

Likes And Comments

When you block someone on Instagram, all the comments and likes they did will be removed from all of your photos and videos. And it wouldn’t be possible to restore them even after unblocking them.
Blocked users will be able to see all your likes and read all your comments shared by public accounts or the accounts they follow.

Mentions And Tags

Once you block someone, they will no longer be able to mention your username or tag you anywhere.
Once you block someone and change your username, they will no longer be able to mention your username or tag you anywhere unless they know your new username.

Messages

When you block someone, all your previous messaging threads with them will remain as it is in your inbox. It will not vanish. However, you cannot message them anymore.
If you are in common groups with the person you blocked, you will be asked if you want to stay in the group or leave. In case you choose to stay, you can see group messages from the user who you blocked.
When the blocked user sends you any message, you won’t receive those messages. And those messages will also not be delivered in case you unblock them. So those messages remain undelivered.
Blocked users will not be able to join rooms created by you.
If the person you blocked has other accounts also, you need to block each account separately. Blocking one account will not block all accounts.

How To Unblock Someone On Instagram?

Now to explain how to unblock someone on Instagram, I am going to Unblock those accounts which I have blocked during the demonstration of the above steps. This will better help you to understand all the nuts and bolts of blocking features of Instagram.

Unblock Someone Through Settings

Open the Instagram App. In the bottom right corner of your phone screen, go to your profile.

Then, tap on the gear icon to get to ‘Settings’.
Go to ‘Privacy” settings.
Then scroll and tap on ‘Blocked Accounts.
Now a list of all blocked accounts will be displayed on your screen. Select the account you want to unblock. I am here selecting ‘johnstephenpiper’. Tap the ‘Unblock’ button next to his name.
Again hit the ‘Unblock’ to confirm your action.

Unblock Someone Through Direct

Open the Instagram App. At the top right corner of our phone screen, hit the ‘Message’ or ‘Chat’ icon.
Open the Chat head of the person you want to block. Just for an example, I am selecting the same user ‘akkanch’ here.
When you open the chat head, you will get a message “You Blocked This Account” at the bottom of your App screen. Just below that, you will also get the option to ‘Unblock’ the user. Tap the option.
Again hit the ‘Unblock’ to confirm your action.

When we step into an online world, we interact with people and express our thoughts. And you may be appreciated or trolled for the same. There are many negative thinkers and nosey users on Instagram that might trouble you with foul commenting. This will sometimes be Repo damaging and you really wish to block them.
