Monday Final Nationals: ‘The Bachelorette’ on ABC Hits Season-Highs with Series-Low Finale Night

ABC was the clear overall winner on Monday night as Rachel Lindsay finally selected her man to be her fiancé on the thirteenth season finale of “The Bachelorette.” The entire three-hour telecast — this year’s edition did not have its usual “After the Final Rose” special but instead, had live interviews among the show’s participants during breaks in the finale — averaged 7.57 million viewers, the best figures of its season but a series-low for a finale night of the long-running romance competition. It was off ten percent in total viewers from last year’s “Bachelorette” finale night” (8.42 million viewers from 8-11 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2016). The previous finale-night low was in 2014 (8.05 million viewers).

As a positive, ABC dominated its closest competition of NBC, with winning margins of 47 percent in total viewers (7.57 million vs. 5.15 million), 62 percent among adults 18-49 (2.1 rating vs. 1.3 rating) and 35 percent among adults 25-54 (2.3 rating vs. 1.7 rating).

Among adults 18-34, ABC (2.0 rating) outdrew the other four broadcast networks combined (1.6); also, outdrawing the top two cable networks in the demo combined (VH1 0.87 rating + USA 0.85 = 1.72 rating).
