Monday Final Nationals: ‘Timeless’ on NBC and ‘Conviction’ on ABC Underwhelm in Series Premieres

ESPN again is the Monday night winner in all key measures with the “Monday Night Football” matchup of New York Giants-Minnesota Vikings (which the Vikings had won 24-10).

At 10 p.m., the series debuts of “Conviction” (ABC) and “Timeless” (NBC) couldn’t top the third season premiere of “Scorpion” (CBS) in total viewers (although ‘Timeless’ eked past ‘Scorpion’ in all key adult demos).

‘Conviction’ had the more disappointing start of the night:

‘Conviction’ retention from “Dancing with the Stars” lead-in:
Total Viewers: 48 percent (5.174 million from 10.728 million)
Adults 18-49: 53 percent (0.9 rating from a 1.7 rating)

And while ‘Timeless’ did better than ‘Conviction’, it also didn’t impress in its start:

‘Timeless’ retention from “The Voice” lead-in:
Total Viewers: 64 percent (7.597 million from 11.783 million)
Adults 18-49: 60 percent (1.8 rating from a 3.0 rating)

‘Timeless’ looks even worse when comparing its premiere figures to those of most recent post-‘Voice’ fall debuts, ‘Blindspot’ from 2015 and ‘The Blacklist’ from 2013:

Total Viewers: 86 percent (10.605 million from 12.371 million)
Adults 18-49: 89 percent (3.1 rating from a 3.5 rating)

‘The Blacklist’ retention from “The Voice” lead-in from 9/23/14:
Total Viewers: 84 percent (12.580 million from 14.983 million)
Adults 18-49: 75 percent (3.8 rating from a 5.1 rating)
