Monday Overnights: Modest Return for ‘D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow’ on The CW

Clean Household Sweep for NBC

MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2018

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 5.8/10, ABC: 4.4/ 7, CBS: 4.2/ 7, Fox: 3.9/ 6, CW: 0.8/ 1

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
Fox: +56, NBC: + 5, CBS: – 9, CW: -20, ABC: -32

-Ratings Breakdown:
The household overnight results for this fifth Monday of the new TV season were almost identical to one week earlier. The one exception was the season premiere of “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” on The CW, which opened season four with a modest 0.7 rating/1 share in households at 9 p.m. Comparably, that declined from lead-in “Arrow” (#5: 0.9/ 1 at 8 p.m.) by 22 percent. One year earlier, short-lived military drama “Valor” scored a 0.6/ 1 in the Monday 9 p.m. hour.

Overall, it was a clean Monday sweep for NBC with its pairing of “The Voice” (#1 for the night: 6.2/10 from 8-10 p.m.) and freshman drama “Manifest” (#1: 5.2/ 9 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, “Manifest” was 52 percent above year-ago time occupant “The Brave” (3.4/ 6 on 10/23/17). And “The Voice” bested competing “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC (#2: 5.2/ 8) by 19 percent in the household overnights.

ABC utilized “Dancing With the Stars” as a lead-in to an encore telecast of the pilot episode of “The Rookie,” which finished third at 10 p.m. with a 2.8/ 5.

Elsewhere, Fox’s combination of dramas “The Resident” (#4: 3.7/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and “9-1-1” (#3: 4.3/ 7) was a hefty 56 percent above year-ago Monday night occupants “Lucifer” and “Valor.” And CBS has nothing unusual to report with its modest line-up of sitcoms “The Neighborhood” (#3: 4.5/ 7 at 8 p.m.) and “Happy Together” (#4: 3.2/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.), the reboot of just renewed “Magnum, P.I.” (#3: 3.9/ 6 at 10 p.m.), and relocated “Bull” (#2: 4.9/ 9 at 10 p.m.). Chances of benchwarmer sitcom “Man With a Plan” stepping in for “Happy Together” is very probable.
