NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ Leads Tuesday

Ratings Breakdown:
All individual program averages in these metered market households are approximate due to President Barack Obama’s farewell address to the county last night.

CBS opened the evening with an encore telecast of “NCIS,” which still managed to the top the 8 p.m. hour with a 6.0 rating/10 share. But competing NBC game show “The Wall,” which scored a competitive 4.3/ 7, is likely to win the time period in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).

Also populating the 8 p.m. hour was ABC comedies “The Middle” (#2: 4.6/ 7) and “American Housewife” (#3: 3.8/ 6), Fox sitcoms “New Girl” (#4: 1.8/ 3) and “The Mick” (#4: 2.1/ 3), and a repeat of “The Flash” (#5: 0.8/ 1) on The CW. Comparably, recent Fox entry “The Mick” slipped by 14 percent at 8:30 p.m. (versus a 2.3/ 4 on Jan. 3). But overnight growth of 17 percent for “The Mick” out of “New Girl” remains promising.

President Obama’s address in the 9 p.m. half-hour fared as follows:
NBC: 5.7/ 9, CBS: 4.8/ 7, ABC: 4.4/ 7, Fox: 1.9/ 3

Leading out of his speech at 9:30 p.m., all repeats, was “The Wall” on NBC (6.6/10), “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS (4.8/ 7) and “Fresh Off the Boat” on ABC (4.2/ 6). Once again, all these overnight results are estimated from last evening.

The CW aired another burn-off episode of canceled drama “No Tomorrow” (#5: 0.6/ 1) in the 9 p.m. hour.

The return of “This is Us” on NBC in the later 10 p.m. hour led the hour, and the night, with a 7.0/12 in the household overnights. Next was a repeat of “NCIS: New Orleans” on CBS (3.5/ 6), followed by an original installment of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” on ABC (1.9/ 3).
