Saturday Final Nationals: CBS and TNT Share Leadership

CBS was the most-watched network on Saturday with 10.92 million viewers, courtesy of the ninth primetime “Republican Presidential Debate” (Women 18-34: 1.1/5; Men 18-34: 1.7/8; Women 18-49: 1.8/6; Men 18-49: 2.5/9) of the presidential election season. This 2-hour debate bested the 3-hour GOP debate on ABC one week earlier by +1 percent in each total viewers (13.443 million vs. 13.335 million) and adults 18-49 (2.734 million vs. 2.7 million) to become the most-watched broadcast network debate this season to-date.

TNT won the night among key demos with its “NBA All-Star Saturday Night” (Women 18-34: 1.40; Men 18-34: 3.76; Women 18-49: 1.61; Men 18-49: 3.63). The telecast featured such contests as the Skills competition, the 3-Point Shootout and the Slam Dunk. Opposite the debate on CBS, the event slightly dipped 8 percent in total viewers (5.592 million vs. 6.082 million) and dipped 7 percent in adults 18-49 (3.313 million vs. 3.563 million) compared to the year-ago telecast.

Its lead out event program “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2016 Special” (Women 18-34: 0.55; Men 18-34: 1.26; Women 18-49: 0.59; Men 18-49: 1.15) actually improved upon what had aired last year after “NBA All-Star Saturday Night”, “Neighborhood Sessions: Jennifer Lopez” — flat among adults 18-49 (1.101 million apiece) but up 5 percent among total viewers (1.866 million vs. 1.78 million).

Another sporting event on the downside opposite CBS’s highly-watched debate was Fox’s “NASCAR Sprint Unlimited” (Women 18-34: 0.6/3; Men 18-34: 0.6/3; Women 18-49: 0.9/3; Men 18-49: 1.3/5) — compared to the NASCAR Sprint Unlimited race on Feb. 14, 2015, it was down 14 percent in total viewers (4.842 million vs. 5.606 million) and down 7 percent in adults 18-49 (1.364 million vs. 1.466 million).
