Sports cable network FS1 dominated the TV landscape Saturday night with its coverage of the Chicago Cubs’ first National League pennant in 71 years as a result of their 5-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the “National League Championship Series.” The game delivered 9.706 million viewers and a 6.3 overnight rating, making it the most-watched and highest-rated telecast in FS1 history, according to fast national figures released by Nielsen Media Research.
Dodgers-Cubs 2016 NLCS Game 6 marks the most-watched LCS telecast on any network since 2010 (San Francisco Giants-Philadelphia Phillies on Fox 11.639 million). The game peaked at 12.213 million viewers on FS1 between 10:30 PM – 10:45 PM ET as Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman induced a double-play ball to end the series.
In Chicago, NLCS Game 6 delivered an astounding 25.8/46 metered market rating/share, FS1’s best ever for the market. Almost 1.1 million households within the Chicago market tuned in to the final inning of the game.
Los Angeles registered a 10.2/23.
Following the final out of the game, baseball fans stuck with FS1’s trophy presentation and postgame show airing from 11:00 PM – 12:30 AM ET, delivering a 2.27 metered market rating/share, its best this postseason.
On the digital front, FOX Sports GO’s average minute audience for the game was 110,506 viewers. Saturday night’s game delivered 273,000 total viewers on FOX Deportes, peaking at 397,000 between 10:30 PM – 10:45 PM ET. Overall, the 2016 NLCS is the most-watched LCS in the history of Spanish language television.
On FS1, the 2016 NLCS averaged 6.953 million viewers over the six games, up +80 percent from last year’s ALCS (vs. 3.854 million viewers) and +56 percent from San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals NLCS on FS1 in 2014 (vs. 4.459 million viewers) that ended in five games. All ten of FS1’s most-watched events are MLB Postseason games, including eight (all of them involving the Chicago Cubs) from the 2016 postseason.
In late night, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” rose to a season-high in both metered-market households and adults 18-49 in the local people meters, scoring its best results for any October telecast in eight years. The episode, hosted by Tom Hanks with musical guest Lady Gaga, generated a 6.1 rating, 15 share in “live plus same day” household results from the 56 local markets metered by Nielsen Media Research and a 3.0/14 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters. For an October edition, they’re the highest “Saturday Night Live” overnights since Oct. 25, 2008 (7.1/16 in metered-market households, 4.0 rating in 18-49 in the local people meters with host Jon Hamm and musical guest Coldplay). Counting all “Saturday Night Live” telecasts, it’s the top-rated in metered-market households since Nov. 7, 2015 and highest in 18-49 in the local people meters since Dec. 21, 2013.
