Saturday Final Nationals: Return of ‘Fox College Football’ Trounced by ABC’s ‘Saturday Night Football’

Not only did Tennessee win big (with a score of 45-24 against Virginia Tech) in front of a college football attendance record of 156,990 fans at Bristol Motor Speedway on “Saturday Night Football” but so did the game’s broadcaster ABC as they were Saturday’s No. 1 network. ABC/ESPN also notes that ABC televised the three most-watched games across all networks during college football’s week two: Virginia Tech-Tennessee in prime time (total live audience of 5.875 million average viewers on TV + Streaming), Tulsa-Ohio State (Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET; total live audience: 4.057 million average viewers) and Central Florida-Michigan (Saturday noon ET; total live audience: 2.918 million average viewers).

While there was a more competitive game — Utah defeating BYU 20-19 — on the 2016 premiere of “Fox College Football”, Fox drew about one-quarter of ABC’s prime time audience in total TV viewers as well as in all key demos including adults 18-49 (0.5 rating on Fox vs. 2.0 rating on ABC).
