CBS was a dominant force on Sunday night. Not only did it lead the evening in total viewers for the fourth consecutive Sunday (on this night, an average of 12.27 million), but it also led in all key demos including adults 18-49 (2.2 rating/8 share) and adults 25-54 (2.9/9). The network was catapulted by the late afternoon telecast of two of college basketball’s perennial heavyweights, North Carolina versus Kentucky, in the South Regional final of “NCAA Div. I Men’s Basketball Tournament.” At 15.47 million viewers from 5:05-7:30 p.m. ET, it was the second largest NCAA Elite Eight game since 2005, trailing only Louisville-Duke in 2013 (15.6 million).
In the game’s dramatic final half-hour (7-7:30 p.m. ET), North Carolina-Kentucky drew 21.06 million viewers, a 12.1 household rating/23 share and a 5.8 rating/24 share among adults 18-49.
