SUNDAY, APRIL 8, 2018

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 5.9/10, ABC: 3.6/ 6, NBC: 2.8/ 5, Fox: 1.2/ 2

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
ABC: +80, Fox: +33, CBS: -21, NBC: -22

Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean sweep in the household overnights for CBS on this second Sunday in April with its older-skewing combination of “60 Minutes” (#1 for the night: 8.0 rating/14 share at 7 p.m.), recent drama entry “Instinct” (5.8/10 at 8 p.m.), which is an improvement over fall time period occupant “Wisdom of the Crowd,” “NCIS: Los Angeles” (5.3/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Madam Secretary” (4.1/ 8 at 10 p.m.). But even a disappointing “American Idol” (4.6/ 8 from 8-10 p.m.) will be enough for ABC to win the evening in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demos).

While “American Idol” does remain a significant improvement over year-ago time period occupants “Once Upon a Time” (1.8 3 on 4/09/17) and “The Match Game” (2.1/ 2), it is also clearly not the hit ABC was hoping for (particularly at the cost the network is paying for it). “American Idol” led into recent drama entry “Deception” at a modest 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m., which finished second ahead of sophomore “Timeless” on NBC (1.7/ 3) and is unlikely to be granted a second season.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was “Dateline” (#3: 2.8/ 5), “Little Big Shots” (#3: 4.1/ 7) and recent entry “Genius Junior” (#3: 2.7/ 5) from 7-10 p.m. Fox, meanwhile, remained out of the competitive loop in the household overnights on Sunday and needs to overhaul this evening next season. The animation is just not cutting it anymore.
