-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:

Ratings Breakdown:
Led by veteran “60 Minutes” (#1 for the night: 6.9 rating/13 share at 7 p.m.), CBS remains the network to beat in the Sunday overnights. ABC, meanwhile, should have no trouble dominating in adults 18-49 (and all the key demos) care of consistent “American Idol,” which scored a 5.0/ 8 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. But the bigger story is the mixed results among the recent entries.
CBS drama “Instinct” led the pack at a 5.1/ 8 (#1) in the 8 p.m. hour, which trailed year-ago time period occupant “NCIS: Los Angeles” (6.0/10 on 4/30/17) by 15 percent. But the audience skew, no doubt, will be considerably old and a lack of available time periods for new shows on the Eye net next season could hinder a second season renewal.
On ABC, drama “Deception” continues to squander the lead-in support from “American Idol,” which at a 2.3/ 4 (#2) in the 10 p.m. hour slipped by 55 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Idol” (5.1/ 8). And “Genius Junior” on NBC, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, scored a typically modest 2.2/ 3 from 9-10 p.m., which was 37 percent below diluted lead-in “Little Big Shots” (#3: 3.5/ 6 at 8 p.m.).
Elsewhere, sophomore drama “Timeless” on NBC (#3: 1.6/ 3 at 10 p.m.) has no shot at a third season. CBS’ already renewed “Madam Secretary” dominated the 10 p.m. hour with a 4.3/ 8 (which led out of a 5.2/ 8 for “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 9 p.m.).
Veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” finished second in the 7 p.m. hour, with a 3.2/ 6. And Fox’s combination of sitcoms – animated and first-run – was basically off the overnight charts.
