Sunday Overnights: ‘The Alec Baldwin Show’ on ABC is Left at the Starting Gate

Respectable Start for 'Charmed' on The CW

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2018

Note: The Greensboro market is not included in the following averages.

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 11.1/19, CBS: 6.7/11, ABC: 2.8/ 5, Fox: 1.6/ 3, CW: 1.1/ 2

-Percent Change vs. the Year-Ago Week:
NBC: +29, ABC: +22, Fox: no change, CBS: -13

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC, as expected, led the Sunday overnight troops with the Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots football match-up at an estimated 14.6 rating in the household overnights through 11:30 p.m. ET. The adult 18-49 rating was an 8.4.

There were two series premieres last night: Talker “The Alec Baldwin Show” on ABC and the reboot of “Charmed” on The CW (which now officially programs on Sunday). “The Alec Baldwin Show,” featuring sit-downs with Oscar winner Robert DeNiro and “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson, was left at the overnight starting gate with a mere 1.7 rating/3 share in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, this was 37 percent below lead-in “Shark Tank” (#3: 2.7/ 4 at 9 p.m.), which is already a shell of its former presence on Friday. And “The Alec Baldwin Show” was only equal to year-ago time period drama occupant “Ten Days in the Valley.” Considering most new series drop 10 to 20 percent in week two, Alec Baldwin may not be talking for too long in primetime.

As for “Shark Tank,” note to ABC: move it make into the Friday 8 p.m. hour and use either “Fresh Off the Boat” or “Speechless” to replace “Single Parents” out of “Modern Family” on Wednesday.

“Charmed” on The CW, featuring an all new cast, opened with a 1.2/ 2 in the overnight households in the 9 p.m. hour, which was a minor improvement from the season premiere of relocated lead-in “Supergirl” (#5: 1.1/ 2 at 8 p.m.). Considering the audience needs to get accustomed to The CW programming Sunday, this is a respectable start for “Charmed” on Sunday.

In week two news, “Dancing With the Stars Juniors” on ABC dropped to a 3.2/ 5 in the household overnights at 9 p.m., which was just 9 percent below the 3.5/ 6 from the two-hour series opener (3.5/ 6 on Oct. 7). One year earlier, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” scored a 2.6/ 4 in this time period. Last night, “AFV” scored a 3.5/ 6 (#2) in the Sunday 7 p.m. hour.
