Sunday Ratings: The NFL Rules Over ‘The American Music Awards’ on ABC; Easy Victory for NBC

Adults 18-49:
NBC: 2.6 rating/17 share, ABC: 0.8/ 5, CBS and Fox: 0.5/ 3 each, CW: 0.0/ 0 

In the battle of football versus music, “Sunday Night Football” on NBC clearly reigned supreme. The Los Angeles Chargers (41) / Pittsburgh Steelers (37) match-up scored an estimated 11.85 million viewers and a 3.0 rating/20 share in adults 18-49 in primetime. Opposite it on ABC was “The American Music Awards” at 3.78 million viewers (#3) and a 1.0/ 6 in the demo from 8-11 p.m., which was an improvement over its regularly scheduled Sunday line-up. As a reminder, results for any live event are always approximate.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 4.29 million viewers (#4) and a 0.5/ 3 in adult 18-49 (#3t) in the 7 p.m. ET hour.

Elsewhere, granddaddy “60 Minutes” opened the night on CBS with 7.35 million viewers (#2) and a modest 0.5/ 3 in adults 18-49 (#3t) at 7 p.m. That led into typical fast affiliate results for 8-10 p.m. crime solvers “The Equalizer” (Viewers: #2, 6.37 million; A18-49: #3, 0.6/ 3) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (Viewers: #2, 5.09 million; A18-49: #3, 0.5/ 3). The network closed the night with a repeat of “FBI: International.”

On Fox, the diluted two-hour animated sitcom block aired out of a one-hour primetime football overrun/post game (Viewers: #1, 14.58 million; A18-49: #1, 3.6/23 from 7-8 p.m.) as follows:

8:00 p.m. – “The Simpsons”
Viewers: 3.88 million (#3); A18-49: 1.1/ 7 (#2)

8:30 p.m. – “The Great North”
Viewers: 2.09 million (#4); A18-49: 0.6/ 4 (#3)

9:00 p.m. – “Bob’s Burgers”
Viewers: 1.75 million (#4); A18-49: 0.6/ 4 (#3)

9:30 p.m. – “Family Guy”
Viewers: 1.63 million (#4); A18-49: 0.6/ 4 (#3)

And The CW featured minimally-watched competition series “Legends of the Hidden Temple” (Viewers: 232,000; A18-49: 0) into two repeat episodes of “Masters of Illusion.” Just because The CW started programming Sunday this fall certainly did not mean anyone would watch.
