The CW Orders ‘Batwoman’ Pilot

Character First Seen in the DC Crossover Event Last Month

The CW has given a pilot order to “Batwoman,” starring Ruby Rose (“Orange is the New Black”), who first appeared as the character in the network’s three-way DC crossover event last month. The potential series comes from executive producer Greg Berlanti, and David Nutter (“Game of Thrones”),  who previously helmed pilots for The CW’s “The Flash” and “Arrow,” will serve in the same capacity on Batwoman.

The drama was first put in development in July, was becomes the first-ever superhero series to be led by a lesbian character. The official description: Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
