Thursday Final Nationals: Fewer-Than-Expected Younger Viewers ‘Catch’ ABC at 10 p.m.

Fox and CBS each had a share in the Thursday night lead.

Fox won among total viewers (8.02 million) and adults 25-54 (2.4 rating/7 share) thanks to the winding-down of “American Idol”.

CBS led among adults 18-49 (1.9/7) and adults 18-34, although the lack of competitive games (in Villanova-Miami, then Kansas-Maryland) showed in year-to-year declines.

On CBS, the prime time averages of the first Thursday of Sweet Sixteen tournament action:

3/24/16: 3.9 rating/7 share, 6.28 million viewers, 1.9/7 adults 18-49

3/26/15: 5.0 rating/9 share, 7.97 million viewers, 2.5/8 adults 18-49

This year was down 21 percent (in each households and total viewers) and down 24 percent (in adults 18-49) from last year.

ABC debuted the new caper drama from Shondaland entitled “The Catch” starring Mirelle Enos and Peter Krause. Despite being the No. 1 scripted option within the 10-11 p.m. hour in total viewers, it skewed older than other Shondaland fare like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder”. While “The Catch” could make up a bit in audience figures on the time-shifted front, consider this a soft start, nonetheless.
