From Forbes:
The participation of former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders escalated the audience interest in night two of the first Democratic presidential debate. Based on the fast national data from Nielsen, the live debate scored 18.1 million million viewers across the networks of NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo, with 5.3 million viewers in adults 25-54 and 4.4 million in adults 18-49. Night one of the debate scored 15.3 million viewers overall.
Comparably, this was the most-watched Democratic presidential debate ever. It was also a record in the key adult 25-54 demographic. But it was still 4.9 million viewers (or 21%) below the 23 million viewers who watched Donald Trump’s second appearance in the Republican primary debate for the 2016 cycle.
Percent-wise, last night’s debate increased from the previous highest-rated Democratic presidential primary debate (on October 13, 2015) by 2.6 million total viewers (an increase of 17%), with a rise of 378,000 viewers in adults 25-54 (+8%). Compared to night one this past Wednesday, the increase in viewership was 2.8 million viewers (+19%) and +936,000 viewers in adults 25-54 (+22%). All three participating outlets — NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo — were on the plus side.
