Tuesday Overnights: NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ Closes Season with Best Performance in 4 Months

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this first Tuesday in the household overnights care of its combination of dramas “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 7.8 rating/13 share), “FBI” (#1t: 6.2/10) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 4.9/ 9). But the third season finale of NBC’s “This Is Us” (#1t: 6.2/10 at 9 p.m.) rose to its best overnight rating since November 27, 2018 and will easily top the evening in adults 18-49 (and all the key demo groups).

Despite the lead-in support, week three of NBC drama “The Village” only tied ABC’s “The Rookie” for the distant number two spot at 10 p.m. (each with a 3.1/ 6). Comparably, that was 49 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of “This Is Us” (6.1/10) and 24 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Chicago Med” (4.1/ 7).

Earlier in the evening on NBC was NBC’s reliable “Ellen’s Game of Games” at a second place 3.6/ 6 in the 8 p.m. hour.

Elsewhere, week three of Fox game show “Mental Samurai” dipped another tenth of a rating point, with a fourth-place 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was 36 percent below lead-in “MasterChef Junior” (#3: 2.2/ 4 at 8 p.m.). ABC had nothing unusual to report with its pairing of sitcoms “black-ish” (#3: 2.1/ 4) and “Splitting Up Together” (#4: 1.8/ 3) from 9-10 p.m. And the remainder of the evening was repeats.
