Tuesday Final Nationals: CNN Delivers Most-Watched Town Hall on Cable News To-Date

NBC won Tuesday night in total viewers (9.48 million), adults 18-49 (2.0 rating/7 share), adults 18-34 (1.2/5) and adults 25-54 (2.7/8).

There were mixed results for the CBS special “The Late Late Show with James Corden: Carpool Karaoke”. It gave the talk show more than three times its nightly 12:37 a.m. audience but drew less than half the total viewers and half the adults 18-49 of the 10-11 p.m. time slot winner, NBC’s “Chicago Fire”.

CNN scored the most-watched town hall in cable history to-date with its three-hour “Republican Town Hall” from Wisconsin and hosted by Anderson Cooper. Not surprisingly, viewership peaked in the 9 p.m. hour when Donald Trump was featured; 4.04 million viewers (including 1.33 million adults 25-54) tuned in then, according to Nielsen preliminary data.

In prime time, CNN averaged 1.062 million adults 25-54 (the coveted demo for advertisers on the news networks). Fox News Channel — the usual prime time leader — was a distant runner-up with 422,000; MSNBC with 292,000.

This evening’s town hall surpassed the previous record holder set back on Jan. 25 with a Democratic Town Hall from Iowa, also on CNN (3.202 million total viewers).

The current presidential election season has propelled CNN to its most-watched quarter in seven years.
