Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this third Tuesday in January in the household overnights, but NBC is the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key demo) thanks to “This Is Us.” Minus the lead-in support from “The Voice” (and following a six week absence), “This Is Us,” however, was below average at a 5.7 rating/9 share in the household overnights. Comparably, this was 16 percent below the 6.8/11 on the year-ago evening. And it led into a second-place 4.0/ 7 for “New Amsterdam” at 10 p.m., which trailed CBS’ competing “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#1: 4.9/ 9) by 18 percent.

“Ellen’s Game of Games” opened the evening for NBC with a third-place 3.9/ 7 in the 8 p.m. hour.

In series news, the reboot of “Roswell, New Mexico” on The CW debuted with a 1.1/ 2 (#5) in the household overnights at 9 p.m., which was 35 percent below the series premiere of “Black Lightning” on year earlier (1.7/ 3 on 1/16/18). Lead-in “The Flash” scored a 1.3/ 2 (#5), which dipped by 32 percent from one year earlier.

Elsewhere, “The Conners” on ABC (#3: 5.0/ 8 at 8 p.m.) remains a shoo-in for renewal, with a 22 percent household improvement from year-ago time period occupant “The Middle” (4.1/ 6 on 1/16/18). But slippage for freshman lead-out “The Kids Are Alright” (#3: 3.0/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.) wasa hefty 40 percent.

The remainder of the evening on ABC – “blackish” (#3: 2.5/ 4), “Splitting Up Together” (#3: 2.0/ 3) and “The Rookie” (#3: 2.9/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. – was on par with typical overnight levels.

On CBS, “NCIS” topped the night in the overnights, as usual, with an 8.1/13 at 8 p.m. That led into a 6.3/10 (#1) for “FBI” at 9 p.m. And Fox featured the low-rated combo of “Lethal Weapon” (#3: 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and “The Gifted” (#4: 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m.).
