Not only was CBS the most-watched network on Wednesday night with an average of 8.39 million total viewers, but they also took top honors on the night in key demos such as adults 18-49 (1.8 rating/6 share) and adults 25-54 (2.5/7).
It was also good news for ABC — the night’s leader in adults 18-49 (1.1/5) — which scored decent marks for its two-episode debut of new family comedy “The Real O’Neals” which stars Martha Plimpton (“Raising Hope”). It maintained the numbers put up by its time slot occupants from one week prior, “The Goldbergs” and “black-ish”, respectively. As for ABC’s veteran Wednesday comedies, a “Dirty Dancing” tribute episode of “The Goldbergs” — airing at a special 8 p.m. time — drew the series’ best viewership since Nov. 18, 2015, while “Modern Family” drew its most-watched episode in eight weeks (Jan. 6).
The absence of a Wednesday edition of “American Idol” (the talent competition airs solely on Thursdays until the end of their season) boosted “Survivor Kaoh Rong” to season-high marks. Even NBC’s “The Mysteries of Laura”, which aired its second season finale telecast and guest starred Debra Messing’s former “Will & Grace” co-star Eric McCormack, delivered its second most-watched episode of its current season.
