Ratings Breakdown:
CBS inched past Fox for Wednesday overnight dominance, with a 0.2 household rating point advantage. But Fox will win the evening with ease in adults 18-49 (and all the key demo groups) thanks to recent entry “9-1-1,” which topped the night at 4.6 rating/7 share in households from 9-10 p.m. Comparably (and opposite an encore telecast of NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU”: #4, 2.6/ 4), that was a hefty 70 percent above year-ago time period occupant “Star” (2.7/ 4 on 1/25/17). It was 10 percent above the 4.2/ 7 in the overnights one week earlier. And “9-1-1” increased from lead-in “The X-Files” (#4: 2.6/ 4 at 8 p.m.) by 77 percent.
Congratulations Fox…”9-1-1” is a bona fide hit.
CBS featured two episodes of “The Amazing Race,” which won the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.4/ 7 and is the perfect Wednesday 8 p.m. time period warmer in between seasons of “Survivor.” Did you hear that, Bertram van Munster? The 9 p.m. telecast of “The Amazing Race” finished second in the hour (behind “9-1-1”), with a 3.7/ 6 in the household overnights.
Capping off the evening for the Eye net was veteran “Criminal Minds” at a dominant 3.5/ 6 at 10 p.m., which bested a repeat of NBC’s “Chicago PD” (#2: 3.2/ 6) and an original installment of “The Match Game” on ABC (#3: 2.2/ 4) by 9 percent and 59 percent, respectively.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was an encore telecast of an 8 p.m. edition of “Law & Order: SVU” at a fourth-place 2.6/ 4.
Over at ABC, the network featured two episodes of “American Housewife” on its Wednesday 8-10 p.m. comedy block as follows:
8:00 p.m.: “The Goldbergs”: 3.9/ 7 (#2)
8:30 p.m.: “American Housewife”: 3.3/ 5 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: “Modern Family” (R): 2.6/ 4 (#4)
9:30 p.m.: “American Housewife”: 2.7/ 4 (#4)
The CW, meanwhile, was at typical Wednesday overnight levels with its pairing of dramas “Riverdale” (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and the failing freshman reboot of “Dynasty” (#5: 0.4/ 1 at 9 p.m.). Upcoming on “Riverdale” on April 18th will be a musical production of “Carrie,” which will be titled “A Night to Remember.” It will feature 11 songs and will be framed as a documentary about the high school theater production filmed by Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse).
