Wednesday Overnights: ‘The Masked Singer’ Season-Ender Scores a Hefty Victory for Fox

NBC's 'Chicago' Trio Remained a Successful Alternative

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

Household Rating/Share
Fox: 7.0/12, NBC: 5.3/ 9, ABC: 2.8/ 5, CBS: 2.7/ 5, CW: 0.6/ 1

Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
Fox: +119, NBC: +32, CW: +20, ABC: -10, CBS: -36

Ratings Breakdown:
Fox was the network to beat in the Wednesday household overnights care of the two-hour “Masked Singer” season-ender, which averaged a hefty 7.0 rating/12 share from 8-10 p.m. The peak half-hour, not surprisingly, was 9:30 p.m., which rose to an 8.3/14. Comparably, this was a whooping 119 percent above year-ago dramas “The X-Files” and “9-1-1,” and it proves that big hits on the broadcast networks still exist.

While not the typical first last night, NBC’s recently renewed flawless combination of “Chicago Med” (#2: 5.8/10 at 8 p.m.), “Chicago Fire” (#2: 5.4/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Chicago PD” (#1: 4.8/ 9 at 10 p.m.) was a solid alternative. Veteran “Survivor” on CBS also resonated with a 4.4/ 7 (#3) in the 8 p.m. hour, but two-hours of “The World’s Best” did not live up to its title at a mere 1.9/ 3 in the household overnights from 9-11 p.m. As for Survivor, I am not a fan of this new twist at the end of each episode, are you?

On ABC, recent sitcom entry “Schooled” did not make the grade with a 2.5/ 4 (#4) at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 22 percent from lead-in “The Goldbergs” (#4: 3.2/ 5). “Modern Family,” which will conclude next season, rose to a 3.3/ 5 at 9 p.m. (#3). But lead-out “Single Parents” dipped to a 2.1/ 4 (#3) at 9:30 p.m., which led into a repeat of the pilot episode of “Whiskey Cavalier” at a 2.9/ 6 at 10 p.m.

The CW had nothing unusual to report with its pairing of “Riverdale” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 8 p.m.) and “Legacies” (#5: 0.5/ 1 at 9 p.m.).
