Wednesday Ratings: More Slippage for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics; ‘Big Brother’ Holds Up on CBS

NBC: 11.65 million, ABC: 2.76, CBS: 2.27, Fox: 957,000, CW: 693,000

Adults 18-49:
NBC: 2.7 rating/19 share, CBS: 0.5/ 4, ABC: 0.3/ 2, Fox: 0.2/ 2, CW: 0.1/ 1

Excluding streaming, night 5 of the Tokyo Summer Olympics on NBC dipped an estimated 11.65 million viewers and a 2.7 rating/19 share in adults 18-49 in primetime. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event via these fast affiliate results are always approximate.

For comparative purposes, here are the national rating results for the five most recent night 5 national rating results. While the inclusion of streaming will certainly give the Tokyo Summer Olympics a boost, it still does not compare to the summer games in Rio, London, Beijing, Athens and Sydney.

Of course, NBCUniversal now has a serious early makegoods issue for the Olympics due to under-delivery of expected viewers.

Elsewhere, CBS summer staple “Big Brother” was on the fast affiliate ratings map with 3.62 million viewers and a 0.9/ 7 in adults 18-49 — second in both categories — in the Wednesday 8 p.m. ET hour. And it led into “Love Island” at 1.83 million viewers (#3) and a 0.5/ 3 in the demo (#2) at 9 p.m.

In season-finale news, “Match Game” on ABC, hosted by Alec Baldwin, concluded the season with a typically modest 2.36 million viewers (#2) and a 0.3/ 2 in adults 18-49 (#2) at 10 p.m. It led out of 3.09 million viewers (#2) and a 0.4/ 3 in the demo (#2) for “The $100,000 Pyramid” at 9 p.m.
