Netflix Orders ‘Sabrina’ Series

Upcoming Series Based on the 'Archie' Comics Characters

Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of an untitled “Sabrina” series from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Brothers Television, which is based on the Archie Comics characters and is described as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. The logline: Tonally in the vein of “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Exorcist” this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Archie Comics, of course, is the original of drama “Riverdale,” which is currently in season two on The CW. And the character of “Sabrina” was featured in sitcom “Sabrina, the Teenage witch,” which began on ABC in 1996 and ended on now defunct network The WB in 2003.
