Cleveland Indians’ drama-laden 1-0 victory versus the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the “2016 World Series” at Wrigley Field — the first World Series at the Chicago venue in 71 years — provided Fox a monumental win on Friday night.
The game’s average viewership of 19.4 million on Fox ranks as the most-watched World Series Game 3 since 2004 (24.4 million viewers for Boston-St. Louis), according to fast national figures released by Nielsen Media Research. Indians-Cubs Game 3 is up +47 percent over 2015 World Series Game 3: Kansas City-N.Y. Mets (vs. 13.2 million viewers). Combined with FOX Deportes (300,000 viewers) and FOX Sports Go (102,882 average minute audience), Game 3 delivered 19.78 million viewers, surpassing a combined audience of 19.77 million viewers for Game 1.
In the male demos, Fox saw significant increases for Friday night’s game over last year in males 12-17 (+59 percent; 2.7 vs. 1.7), males 18-34 (+84 percent; 4.6 vs. 2.5), males 18-49 (+55 percent; 6.2 vs. 4.0), and males 25-54 (+44 percent; 7.5 vs. 5.2). In adults 18-49, last night’s Game 3 is up +63 percent compared to last year (5.2 vs. 3.2).
Friday night’s telecast opened with a 7.5/15 and 12.6 million viewers and grew steadily throughout the evening to peak at a 14.2/28 and 24.5 million viewers from 11:30 PM – 11:41 PM ET.
FOX Deportes averaged a .2 household rating and 300,000 total viewers, which ranks as the most-watched World Series game on Spanish-language television since Game 7 of the 2014 World Series (Kansas City Royals vs. San Francisco Giants).
Cleveland led all markets by delivering a 39.2/60 overnight rating/share with Chicago posting a strong 35.1/57.
