And the password is “advertiser make goods,” with the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022 on NBC at an estimated 8.72 million viewers and a 1.6 rating/12 share in primetime. As always, results for any live event (sports, in particular) are approximate. Also, this event originally aired live on NBC between 6:30-9:30 a.m. ET yesterday morning, further depressing the nighttime figure. Comparably, this is just over one-third the audience of the 28.3 million viewers who tuned in for the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang in 2018. In addition, it’s a 14 percent total viewer decline and a 30 percent key demo decline from the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics from over six months ago (fast affiliate: 10.445 million total viewers and a 2.3/19 adults 18-49 rating/share on July 23, 2021). The following is a half-hour breakdown of NBC in prime time:

8:00 p.m. — Viewers: 9.68 million, A18-49: 1.5/12
8:30 p.m. — Viewers: 9.96 million, A18-49: 1.7/14
9:00 p.m. — Viewers: 9.69 million, A18-49: 1.8/14
9:30 p.m. — Viewers: 9.12 million, A18-49: 1.7/13
10:00 p.m. — Viewers: 7.23 million, A18-49: 1.4/11
10:30 p.m. — Viewers: 6.67 million, A18-49: 1.2/11

Also original on Friday was two-hours of “Celebrity Big Brother” on CBS, was did not impress with 2.25 million viewers (##) and a 0.4/ 3 in adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. The episode, which featured the season’s first veto competition and first live eviction, was well below what “Big Brother” (celebrity or regular) scores in the fast affiliate ratings. The following is a half-hour breakdown of CBS’s “Celebrity Big Brother”:

8:00 p.m. — Viewers: 2.61 million, A18-49: 0.4/ 3
8:30 p.m. — Viewers: 2.22 million, A18-49: 0.4/ 3
9:00 p.m. — Viewers: 2.11 million, A18-49: 0.3/ 3
9:30 p.m. — Viewers: 2.08 million, A18-49: 0.3/ 2

And, “WWE SmackDown” on Fox was also below average. See network tallies above.

The remainder of Friday were repeat telecasts.
