HBO Max Orders ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’

The Upcoming Series Comes From 'Riverdale' Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Streamer HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order for a reboot of “Pretty Little Liars” called “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” from “Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The logline: “Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago …as well as their own. In the dark, coming-of-RAGE, horror-tinged drama “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing “Pretty Little Liars” universe — in a brand-new town, with a new generation of Little Liars.”

“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” from Warner Bros. TV comes just three years after “Pretty Little Liars” ended its seven-season run. There were two spinoffs: “Ravenswood,” which aired in the 2013-14 season; and “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” which ran for one season in 2019.

No casting for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” has been announced, and the expected debut date is sometime in 2021.
