The 2018 “Golden Globe Awards,” hosted by Seth Meyers, featured several strong statements in support of the #MeToo movement. Oprah Winfrey, who received the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement, praised the legions of women who have come forward with their #MeToo stories. “Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool you all have,” she said.
In the TV categories, HBO’s “Big Little Lies” came out on top, winning four awards, for Best Television Limited Series, Best Actress in a Limited Series (Nicole Kidman), Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (Laura Dern), and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series (Alexander Skarsgard). It was joined by Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which won Best Television Series: Drama and Best Actress in a Television Series — Drama (Elisabeth Moss) and recent Amazon entry “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which won Best Television Series — Comedy and Best Actress in Television Series: Comedy (Rachel Brosnahan).
“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Lady Bird” won top honors in the movie categories.
