  1. The drop for Timeless is very telling….my gripe with the show is just some really stupid lines in the show.

My mom built this “department” (don’t remember the word she used) nothing against women in academics but why is it that only women are educated nowadays and men are just dopes and slaves to sex and desire (almost like today’s version of blondes from past shows). it would of been more realistic if her father built this and she followed….oh wait, women can’t follow men its not PC, I forgot.

Another thing is the female journalist and her comments on size……..sorry but they didn’t talk that suggestive long ago, I hate when Hollywood changes history to make it more current. Oh and the guy announcing the Hindenburg’s demise had the right words but no emotion in them….WHY?????

  2. Out of the gate all I can say is what the hell was NBC thinking picking up garbage like Timeless then trying to put it on behind The Voice like anybody was going to be interested in it? Like when you’re behind Blindspot’s third episode from last year you know you picked up trash. Shows like This Is Us, the Chicagoans, The Blacklist, and Blindspot worked better behind The Voice because they’re simple shows for people to get into not some shit that should be on cable sibling channel SyFy. I was literally embarrassed that this show even aired on NBC last night behind a big Voice audience, same thing with The Good Place a couple of weeks ago. Like get these weird shows outta here.

As for Conviction I’m not surprised it flopped like everything else on ABC this season including Designated Survivor which people will see will start sinking as the season goes along. Channing Dungey is having a horrible rookie season and she can’t schedule for shit. One network that is extremely happy today and this season so far is CBS as they’ve bounced back quite a bit from last season as Scorpion will not have to worry about competition this season.

Go Calvin Johnson on DWTS tonight as I’m real scared of this double elimination tonight. GO LIONS!

Keeping it with CBS right now man they might have their next big comedy hit in Kevin Can Wait although like Marc cautioned us earlier we should wait to see how it does on its own in a few weeks but so far so good for KCW. Man Kevin James really does equal ratings for sure bro. His show feels more and more like King of Queens which is a good thing but the supporting cast is nowhere near as strong so I expect changes there going into season 2. Erinn Hayes has been a good character in this, she was one of the best things about Guys with Kids honestly when that show was out. What’s more impressive about Kevin Can Wait right now is that BBT is not as high as it was in past seasons where the lead-outs would squander more of the lead-in. I think KCW will hold up well not this well but well enough to lead the comedy block for the rest of the season.

I’m very interested in seeing if Supergirl can beat Gotham next week it shouldn’t be too hard honestly as FOX just sucks right now.

    • ABC CAN schedule right but turns out they don’t yet have the shows. But you can’t dismiss Designated Survivor. It’ll win the Wed 10 p.m. hour this fall — when’s the last ABC show that touted that on a regular basis? And Speechless has been a clear winner too.

Oh, the Lions are going to “go” alright… Into the toilet! What the heck was that performance at Soldier Field last Sunday? Chalk up another forgettable NFL season in Detroit.

      • Clearly ABC can’t schedule if they could they would be doing way better right now but I do agree they don’t have the show and will they have the shows under Dungey whose struggling badly? I don’t trust her right now, I didn’t think anybody could do worse than Paul Lee but she’s proving it right now.

Nashville was doing pretty well when it started out from what I remember and are we sure DS is going to win Wednesdays at 10pm? It was literally only 3 points above Chicago PD. I didn’t think it would be that close to the competition this early. I was clearly wrong on thinking DS would be deep in the 2s the first few weeks but not wrong that it could lose 1st place at some point later in the season. It’s too early to call but it’s gonna be a good race I think Chicago PD comes out on top like it always does eventually just like it did against Stalker which started out well against it a couple of seasons ago.

As for the Lions that was worst lost in the history of the franchise and we’re at rock bottom right now losing to the Care Bears and Caillou Hoyer at Section 8 Field. It should’ve been expected since were keeping the worst coach currently in the league instead of firing him. The team is simply not playing for him anymore so it’s a lame duck season and GM Bob Quinn has to build this thing back up for the next 2-3 years. At least we still got Stafford to look forward to every week.

        What’s your NFL team anyways?

        • Dungey will stay in that gig for a while. ABC is not going to fire the first African-American female president of a broadcast network in the industry’s history plus she helped develop solid hits for ABC in the recent past. Give her time. It even took the great Les Moonves about four years as president for his CBS to strike ratings gold.

Nashville has a loyal fan base as I’m sure you’ll follow it to CMT for its next season — a good pickup for a cable network looking towards scripted series. But the show was never a hit for ABC.

I’m a fan of the G-Men. Went to their Super Bowl victory parade in 2008 after they denied the Pats an undefeated season.

          • No doubt she’ll stay. She sends the right “messaging” as well as seems to be highly pliable when it comes to renewing the “right” flops.

As I mentioned before, I am actually not sure she got all that much power to decide anything this season.

As for the solid shows she “developed”, what are they? ABC isn’t exactly littered with solid shows!

On Les Moonves, I don’t recall him renewing a dozen out-and-out flops on his first years…

            Totally agree on Nashville. 🙂

            • CBS was in third place for Les’ first 5 seasons as prez and he renewed his share of stinkers (Cosby, Martial Law) and ratings duds (Chicago Hope) as well as completely striking out with every new show promoted during the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

              • Les has never had an unerring nose for hits.

His success is mainly based on having seen the potential of CSI, which he picked up when ABC rejected it, the potential of JAG (and Don Bellisario) which he brought from NBC and let Don make his way (and of course this brought CBS the NCIS shows) and getting Chuck Lorre on.

Martial Law, he did destroy with his retoolings. It was actually a really good show the first 6-7 episodes and then became like Rush Hour (the TV show)!!

Chicago Hope was not a ratings dud as far as I can recall. I just did not as well as ER (what did?) and performed solidly throughout its lengthy-for-its-time run.

That said, given the level of all the other network heads since, he still leads the pack quite comfortably.

The conglomerate owners sure know how to pick’em.

On the subject, how do you like how they are explaining to us now how Paramount and CBS must be merged when they told us they must be spun off ten years ago?!!!

          • I definitely don’t expect ABC to fire Dungey anytime soon she’s in there for the long haul but I just don’t trust her at the moment to do the rights things to build ABC back up like Greenblatt had in recent years for NBC.

Nashville was in a rare position to be saved by another network so I can only hope they take full advantage of it.

No wonder the G-Men I know you aren’t happy after that ass whoopin’ from the Vikes the other night and OBJ looking like another ringless talent who wines every second. No playoff appearances to speak of since 2011 but at least you guys have more rings in your trophy case than the team we’re facing on Sunday the only team in the division with no rings to speak of.

            • Sadly I don’t think they’ll fire Dungey anytime soon, and if they did, they’d replace her with another clone of Paul Lee…

              • I agree they not going to fire her, they got her in for the long haul plus that would be a bad PR move for them.

      • Winning the time slot is better than not winning it, but when all the
shows in the slot are doing poorly, it’s hardly reason to celebrate…

I’m also not sold yet on the fact it won’t dip below the Chicago show on NBC.

You’re totally right on ABC not having good shows. It’s been the case for years. Dungey came in and renewed a dozen flops in her first month.

Maybe if she tried more shows (from different producers and with better casting) ABC would be doing way better now.

    • Generally agree with you but don’t see the progress at CBS. If anything they’re staying pat with the minus of Big Bang ebbing.

At least they got rid of Supergirl!

Both Timeless and Conviction were cursed with uninteresting-looking leads who clearly didn’t get there because of their acting chops or charisma.

Timeless you knew would fail as it came from Shawn Ryan, hardly a name that excites TV viewers given all the flops he’s been behind…

On Conviction, the blurb summarizing the show is so brain-dead, it’s a wonder more people didn’t change the channel instantly.

  3. Timeless was alright but I knew this concept wouldn’t have longevity especially after the Voice.

Conviction being DOA doesn’t surprise me. Cue “Bring back Agent Carter!!” (though I wouldn’t object!) Lol

It is not out of the realm of possibility that the Supergirl premiere next week tops Gotham in the demo. Lucifer grows from Gotham week to week. That intrigues me. Lucifer is a great show with fantastic writing and this is coming from somebody who thought it would be bad based on the original previews.

  4. First, kudos to Marc for Calling Timeless like it was. 🙂

I think most of the Hollywood press will call it a “hit premiere”.

Lots of worrisome numbers other than that.

Big Bang continues to drop at an alarming rate.

Kevin keeps dropping a lot of that shrinking lead-in so is not looking too good to be the hit CBS desperately needs.

Scorpion was soft and kept dropping viewers, which isn’t a good sign.

ON FOX, Gotham and Lucifer are predictably just as DOA as they were last season.

DWTS and The Voice are still solid but not as strong as they were.

Timeless lost a lot of its lead-in and dropped further and only looks OK because Conviction dropped like the proverbial stone.

    I wouldn’t buy “Big 5 Networks” share based on that… 😉
