NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ Rises to a Series High

CBS topped this first Tuesday in March in the household overnights with its combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 8.9 rating/14 share), “Bull” (#2: 6.6/11) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 5.9/10). But NBC’s “This Is Us,” which concludes its stellar first season next week, was the true story of note. “This Is Us” rose to a series-high 7.7/13 at 9 p.m., building by 15 percent from its prior high household overnight rating (6.7) and maintaining the lead-in support from “The Voice” (7#2: 7.3/12 at 8 p.m.). Comparably, “This Is Us” owns the Tuesday 9 p.m. ET hour in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).

NBC capped off the evening with a Tuesday 10 p.m. telecast of “Chicago Justice” (#2: 4.2/ 8), which beat the debut of gushy “People Icons” on ABC (#3: 1.8/ 3) by a significant 133 percent.
Once again, ABC started the evening out respectively with warhorse “The Middle” (#3: 4.0/ 7 at 8 p.m.), followed by compatible – and certainly renewable – “American Housewife” at a 3.3/ 5 at 8:30 p.m. (#3). But “Fresh Off the Boat,” which is not the hit ABC would lead you to believe, slid to a 2.3/ 4 in the household overnights at 9 p.m. (#4), followed by expected-to-be canceled “The Real O’Neals” at a fourth-place 1.9/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.

Over at The CW, “The Flash” remains the net’s top-rated series at a fourth-place 1.9/ 3 at 8 p.m. And it led into recently relocated “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” at a 1.2/ 2 (#5) at 9 p.m.

Fox populated the evening with encore telecasts of “New Girl” and “The Mick” (1.9/ 3 each from 8-9 p.m.) into a 2.0/ 3 at 9 p.m. for soon-to-conclude “Bones.”
