‘The Odd Couple’ Quietly Concludes on CBS

Fourth Season of the Revival Sitcom is Not Expected

MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 2017

Household Rating/Share
ABC: 4.0/ 7, CBS: 4.0/ 6, Fox: 2.7/ 4, NBC: 2.6/ 4, CW: 1.2/ 2

Percent Change From the Year-Ago Evening:
CW: +50, ABC: -13, CBS: -32, Fox: -50

Ratings Breakdown:
Led by “The Bachelor,” ABC finished this final Monday in January tied with CBS for first in household rating, with the two networks besting distant No. 3 Fox by 1.3 rating points. “The Bachelor” (#1: 4.9 rating/8 share) continues to squash NBC’s competing “Celebrity Apprentice” (2.7/ 4) in the 8-10 p.m. block, with a household rating advantage of 81 percent. Comparably, “The Bachelor” dropped by only nine percent from the 5.4/ 8 on the year-ago evening. But relocated lead-out “Quantico” dropped the ratings’ ball at 10 p.m., with a third-place 2.1/ 3.

First at 10 p.m. was an encore telecast of “Scorpion” on CBS (3.5/ 6), followed by “Timeless” on NBC at a slim 2.4/ 4. Needless to say, there is no reason to expect a second season of “Timeless.”

In season – or series – finale news, two episodes of CBS sitcom “The Odd Couple” finished second in the 9 p.m. hour, with a 3.8/ 6 and 3.5/ 6, respectively, in the two half-hours. While that could be worse, a fourth season of this revival is highly unlikely.

Earlier in the evening on CBS were repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the evening: 5.6/ 9) and “Kevin Can Wait” (#2: 4.1/ 6) from 8-9 p.m.

Elsewhere, “Supergirl” on The CW remains the real deal at a 1.8/ 3 (#5) in the 8 p.m. hour. But lead-in “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.7/ 1 at 9 p.m.) survives by critical acclaim only. Fox dramas “Gotham” (#4: 2.5/ 4) and “Lucifer” (#4: 2.8/ 5) were at typical modest household overnight levels, which should still be enough to warrant renewals for next season.
