Saturday Ratings: ABC Leads Key Demos with ‘NBA Saturday Primetime’ Season Premiere

Adults 18-49:
ABC: 0.5 rating/ 5 share, CBS and NBC: 0.3/ 3 each; Fox: 0.2/ 3, CW: 0.1/ 1

With the college football regular season concluded for the year, Saturday night leadership will become more mixed in the weeks to come. This night is one example with repeat-filled NBC as prime time’s top broadcast network in total viewers. However, when Nielsen’s final national data arrives Dec. 13 (with all time zones factored), ABC is projected to take the viewership lead…

The season premiere of “NBA Saturday Primetime” put ABC on top in the key 18-49 demographic. The game featured the first rematch of last year’s NBA Finals teams, the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics. The half-hours of Golden State’s 123-107 win were:

8:00 (“NBA Countdown”) — Viewers: 1.70 million, A18-49: 0.3/ 4
8:30 — Viewers: 2.04 million, A18-49: 0.4/ 4
9:00 — Viewers: 2.23 million, A18-49: 0.5/ 5
9:30 — Viewers: 2.28 million, A18-49: 0.5/ 6
10:00 — Viewers: 2.40 million, A18-49: 0.6/ 7
10:30 — Viewers: 2.44 million, A18-49: 0.6/ 7

Fox, which placed fourth in each key figure, premiered men’s college basketball. The half-hours of Arizona’s 89-75 win over Indiana were:

8:00 — Viewers: 1.32 million, A18-49: 0.3/ 3
8:30 — Viewers: 1.09 million, A18-49: 0.2/ 3
9:00 — Viewers: 1.03 million, A18-49: 0.2/ 3
9:30 — Viewers: 0.98 million, A18-49: 0.3/ 3

As for non-sports programming:

NBC “Dateline Mystery” (9:00-10:00)
— Viewers: 2.74 million, A18-49: 0.3/ 3

CBS “48 Hours” (10:00-11:00)
— Viewers: 2.35 million, A18-49: 0.2/ 2

CW “Criss Angel’s Magic With the Stars” (repeat) (8:00-9:00)
— Viewers: 0.424 million, A18-49: 0.1/ 1

CW “World’s Funniest Animals” (9:00-9:30)
— Viewers: 0.447 million, A18-49: 0.1/ 1

CW “World’s Funniest Animals” (repeat) (9:30-10:00)
— Viewers: 0.451 million, A18-49: 0.1/ 1

Although their fast affiliate figures were not yet available at post time, it is projected that ESPN (with the Heisman Trophy presentation and boxing), and Hallmark Channel (with the telefilm “Christmas Class Reunion”) to be at least in the competitive mix and among the leading networks in prime time.
