It was apparent football fans were not attracted by Colts-Texans matchup on NBC’s its Sunday prime time reign with “Sunday Night Football” even though it featured a fourth-quarter Texans comeback from down 23-9 to then emerge victorious 26-23 in overtime. With a mere 8.1 U.S. household rating/14 share and 13.595 million viewers, not only did the game reach a season-low but it was also the least-watched SNF game since the infamous Saints’ 62-7 blowout win over the Colts on Oct. 23, 2011 (12.465 million). NBC has experienced a weekly downward trend with its NFL coverage in 2016 thus far; each of its seven telecasts this season have hit a multi-year low in ratings.
On a positive ratings note, a new viewership record was set for FS1 — for the second time for the network in five days — courtesy of ratings-booster Chicago Cubs. Dodgers-Cubs in “National League Championship Series” Game 2 delivered a 4.06 U.S. household rating and 7.291 million viewers which was the most-watched MLB LCS Game 2 (American or National) since Tigers-Red Sox on Fox in 2013 (8.3 million).
Among the hometown markets, NLCS Game 2 set record high overnight ratings for FS1 in both Los Angeles (10.8) and Chicago (23.9).
Sunday night’s game on Fox Deportes was the most-watched LCS game in the history of Spanish language television, averaging 291,000 total viewers. The broadcast peaked between 10:30-10:45pm ET (when the game was in the ninth inning), with 394,000 viewers on Fox Deportes and 8.228 million viewers on FS1.
Through two games, the NLCS on FS1 is averaging 6.525 million viewers, up +43 percent from last year’s Toronto-Kansas City ALCS (vs. 4.555 million viewers) on FS1/Fox and up +40 percent over the first two NLCS games of 2014’s Giants-Cardinals NLCS (vs. 4.677 million viewers) on FS1/Fox.
Game 2 punctuates a record-setting week, as it was FS1’s most watched week ever, nearly doubling the prior record 2 years ago.
