The 70th Emmys: And the Winners Were…

'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino Makes Emmy History

HBO and Netflix tied with the most trophies, with 23 each. The top awards — Best Comedy, Drama and Limited Series — were bestowed to Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” on FX. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” topped the night among the individual series, with acting awards to Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein, and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who history by winning Emmys for both her writing and directing the series pilot, the first time a woman has clinched both prizes.

Other notable winners included Henry Winkler for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy HBO’s “Barry,” marking his first Emmy win in his long career; and Matthew Rhys for Outstanding Actor in a Drama for the final season of FX’s “The Americans.” Claire Foy  topped the drama acting category (besting Rhys’ co-star Keri Russell), while “Barry’s” Bill Hader was the surprise winner for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy.
