The Australian Guineas is a mile race for Group 1 that has actively participated for three years at the Flemington Racecourse. This was during the Melbourne Racing Carnival. The Australian Guineas came out first in the #1 Alligator Blood competition, second in the #6 Superstorm competition, and third in the #5 Soul Patch competition.
Australian Guineas Race History
The Australian Guineas is an event that is relatively young. The first time it was ever run was in 1986 as a race of Grade 3 caliber; but it then climbed up the scale to get to the Group 1 level in the race event of 1987. It has managed to maintain this 1 level ever since.
The race has also managed to maintain its rightful distance, which is the mile. The Flemington Racecourse has been the venue for the Australian Guineas, apart from the year 1997 when the event took place at Caulfield due to some renovations that were happening at Flemington.
Additional Information about the Australian Guineas Race
The Australian Guineas Race which is usually set for 1600m often attracts some of the best distant racing youngsters who are often looking to have a cut in the $1 million prize money. Despite the fact that it is the only race at the meeting, it is often accompanied by some of the best Group status, such as the 1600m Group 2 Blamey Stakes.
The runners in the Australian Guineas often tend to come early in the Autumn lead ups. The latter includes the 1200m Group 3 Manfred Stakes that is usually held in early February. Additionally, there is the 1200m Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes that participated in the geldings and colts that run for three years at Flemington.
The Australian Guineas may further move to the 2040m Group 2 Clark Stakes that are scheduled to take place at the Moonee Valley. The Australian guineas winners may then graduate and move to Sydney for the Autumn races such as the 2000m Rosehill Guineas and the 2400m Group 1 Derby of the ATC.
An additional new feature that has been added is the Special $ 5 million worth 1600m race that was held at the different racetracks of Melbourne.
The Australian Guineas Field
The field of the Australian Guineas is one of the top three races on the racing calendar and it often accommodates quite a large field of horses of very high quality. Most of the field is often occupied mostly by locals; though at times you may find some trainers on the interstate.
On a local scale, the three-year-old races that participated include the following, the 1400m Autumn Stakes at Caulfield and the 1200m Manfred Stakes that also took place at Caulfield. Some other races that happen at the Australian Guineas Field include the gender-based races. The latter includes the 1400m Group 3 Vanity race that happened at Flemington, the 1200m Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes race that happened at the Caulfield and the 1400m Group 3 CS Hayes stakes that also took place at Flemington.
