-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:

Ratings Breakdown:
It was all about ABC’s “Roseanne,” with episode three of the revival at a significant 9.8 rating/16 share in the household overnights in the 8 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, this was 14 percent below the 11.4/19 for the week-ago series return, which translated into a staggering 25-million viewers (and a 7.3 rating in adults 18-49), based on the Live+3 Day data from Nielsen. Do the math, and expect “Roseanne” to potentially pass the 21-million mark this week. “Roseanne” was also 165 percent above year-ago time period occupant “Middle,” which moved into the 8:30 p.m. half-hour last night for its final episodes at a season high (and third place) 5.1/ 8 at 8:30 p.m.
In week two news, ABC sitcom “Splitting Up Together” slipped by 28 percent from its week-ago debut, with a 3.3/ 5 (#2) in the household overnights at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, however, retention out of lead-in “black-ish” (#2: 3.6/ 6 at 9 p.m.) was solid at 92 percent, and it was a marked improvement from the 2.2/ 4 for short-lived sitcom “Imaginary Mary” on the year-ago evening.
At 10 p.m., week four of Shonda Rhimes legal drama “For the People” sunk to a series low 2.0/ 4, which trailed “NCIS: New Orleans” on CBS (#1: 5.5/10) and “Chicago Med” on NBC (#2: 4.1/ 7) by 64 percent and 51 percent, respectively.
Earlier in the evening on CBS was veteran “NCIS,” which took a backseat to competing “Roseanne” at a 7.8/13 in the 8 p.m. hour. And that led into a dominant 7.1/12 for compatible “Bull” at 9 p.m., which bested competing “Rise” on NBC (#3: 3.0/ 5) by 137 percent. NBC, needless to say, misses “This Is Us”!
Elsewhere, “Black Lightning” on The CW proved its worth with a 1.2/ 2 in the household overnights at 9 p.m. out of a 0.6/ 1 for an encore telecast of “The Flash” at 8 p.m. And a repeat of “Lethal Weapon” on Fox (#4: 1.5/ 2) led into the sitcom pairing of “LA to Vegas” (#4: 1.5/ 2) and “The Mick” (#4: 1.4/ 2) from 9-10 p.m.
