The return of its full slate of regular programming — “60 Minutes”, “Madam Secretary”, “The Good Wife” and “CSI: Cyber” — on the night led CBS to a total-viewer victory on Sunday with an average of 8.69 million total viewers.

Leading television among adults 18-49 with an average of a 3.3 rating in prime time (7-11 p.m.) was the cable network AMC with the last two hours of “The Walking Dead” rerun marathon, the highly-anticipated “Walking Dead” midseason premiere followed by its after-show “Talking Dead”.

Based on Live+Same Day data, the return of “The Walking Dead” at 9 p.m. (13.742 million total viewers, 8.565 million) had seen some erosion when comparing it to the series’ most recent notable original telecasts such as:

5th season midseason premiere (Sunday, February 8, 2015)
Total viewers: -12 percent (15.643 million)
Adults 18-49: -15 percent (10.129 million)

6th season premiere (Sunday, October 11, 2015)
Total viewers: -6 percent (14.633 million)
Adults 18-49: -9 percent (9.421 million)

6th season fall finale (Sunday, November 29, 2015)
Total viewers: -2 percent (13.981 million)
Adults 18-49: -4 percent (8.899 million)

Nonetheless, as a huge positive, the adults 18-49 delivery of “The Walking Dead” — a 6.75 rating — soundly defeated the combined 4.3 adults 18-49 rating of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox within the 9-10 p.m. hour. Also, “The Walking Dead” adults 18-49 rating nearly doubled the combination of Big-3 networks (3.5): NBC 1.4, ABC 1.1 and CBS 1.0.

Despite opposite “The Walking Dead”, the “2016 NBA All-Star Game” — hailing from Toronto, Canada and the eighteenth consecutive (and final) one in the career of Lakers star Kobe Bryant — simulcast on TNT and TBS was up 6 percent in total audience (7.614 million vs. 7.175 million) and up 7 percent among adults 18-49 (4.194 million vs. 3.916 million) from the year-ago exhibition (from Feb. 15, 2015).

The game peaked with an average audience of 8.7 million between the 8:45-9:00 p.m. ET. (Source: Turner)

The top local U.S. markets for the NBA All-Star Game were:

San Antonio (12.4)
Oklahoma City (9.9)
Cleveland (9.7)
San Francisco (9.4)
Memphis (8.4)
