CBSN and Instagram Partner for the Upcoming Debates

Social Media Will Be a Critical Ingedient in This Upcoming 'Circus'

CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 digital streaming news service, and Instagram today announced a partnership to feature curated Instagram Stories in CBSN’s live streaming coverage for the upcoming presidential and vice presidential debates. The partnership makes CBSN the first network to feature Instagram Stories in live coverage.

As part of the pairing, a collection of Instagram Stories created by CBSN anchors and CBS News correspondents and contributors, including Nancy Cordes, Vladimir Duthiers, Major Garrett, Reena Ninan, Will Rahn and Bob Schieffer, will be integrated into CBSN’s anchored coverage before and after each debate, along with stories from political experts and voters across the country. CBSN will also curate questions from voters to inform coverage of the debates. CBSN will use the real-time audience engagement platform Connect Live from social technology company Telescope to deliver Instagram Stories live on air.

CBSN will offer complete coverage before, during and after each debate, with primetime coverage beginning at 7 p.m. ET. The presidential debates will take place tonight, Sunday, Oct. 9, and Wednesday, Oct. 19, and the vice presidential debate will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4. CBSN’s Josh Elliott, Vladimir Duthiers and Reena Ninan will anchor the coverage, and CBSN anchor and CBS news correspondent Elaine Quijano will moderate the vice presidential debate on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. She will lead CBSN’s live coverage from the final two presidential debates. Bob Schieffer will join CBSN as a special contributor, and Nancy Cordes and Major Garrett will also contribute to CBSN’s coverage live from each debate site. In addition, CBSN will feature a panel of experts and contributors including Jamelle Bouie, Peggy Noonan, Leslie Sanchez and Lynda Tran.
